  • Mystic Hot Springs
  • private business Monroe UT
  • There is one big pool with a little waterfall, then up the hill are some bathtubs for your own private soak overlooking the wide valley. Really cool setup. Camping area is 200 yards down the hill. The pools are spectacular and the actual camping area is pleasant but rest of the property is extremely derelict. Walking up the crappy trail to the bathtubs in flip flops is hard for a 70-year old. It's pretty dangerous coming back down in wet flip-flops! Electric hookups and tent/van sleeping seem to be the same price.

  • Silver Surf Motel
  • private business San Simeon CA
  • Convenient place to crash on a stretch of highway with not too many options. The first reasonably prices place you will find after failing to find a place in Big Sur. Close to Hearst Castle and the Sea Elephant Mating Ground!

  • Arlington Hotel Resort and Spa
  • private business Hot Springs AR
  • Historic hotel in the very heart of downtown Hot Springs. Nice hot tub, I'm sure the pool is nice in the summer. A short walk to the Hot Springs Visitors Center.

  • Economy Inn
  • private business Payson AZ
  • not exciting, but comfortable and clean and quiet

  • Junipers Reservoir RV Resort
  • private business Lakeview OR
  • Far from everything, in the high desert of southeast Oregon, a few miles east of Lakeview.

  • Martha's house #1
  • private business Eureka CA
  • Where the family now is. A little one bedroom on a corner with a nice bug side yard, perfect for playing ball with Tyler.

  • Waters Edge Resort
  • private business Garden City UT
  • Was called the Bear Lake Lodge until recently. The old motel seems to be some kind of doomed placeholder for a deluxe extended stay place "coming soon". Great location, the lake directly in back, pizza place to the north and a nice modern place that even serves beer to the south ... which turns out to be the same owners as the motel.

  • Motel 6
  • chain, Fort Bragg CA
  • One of the cheaper motels in town, and for good reason! The room itself is nice. Motel 6 is (IMO), kind of the Target of motel chains in that it offers quite a bit more style than it's competitors. There's a bar/restaurant on the lot that's very handy. Just pack up in the morning and walk to breakfast.

  • Sandcreek RV Park and Campground
  • private business Torrey UT
  • Pleasant, well laid out, reasonably priced campground.

  • Titanic Hotel at Anadolu Medical Center
  • private business Gebze Turkey
  • quite deluxe and pleasant, no reason to be here except for the hospital, wonderful breakfast included, nice people

  • Ar Palas
  • private business Istanbul Turkey
  • on a steep hill right next to the super happening Taksim District. Breakfast is adequate. Amazing view from the room, even better up the fire escape on the roof.

  • Lamplighter Motel
  • private business Alamosa CO
  • Downtown Alamosa is a cool place to hang out, but this motel is falling apart. Breakfast at their litle restaurant is included, and it was a pretty good breakfast.

  • Martha's house #3
  • private business Petaluma CA
  • Making their way back to the Bay Area. A nice house on a busy street walking distance from user-friendly downtown Petaluma.

  • Eureka Inn
  • private business Eureka CA
  • Historic hotel in the heart of downtown. Cool place with a cool bar with frequent live music. The downstairs areas are large and very grand, and you can feel the history, which would merit my "fancy" designation. The actual rooms however are pretty shabby with not much space and few amenities, hence the "plain" designation.Three blocks away from the heart of Old Town, with all it's eating, drinking, and shopping opportunities.

  • Motel 6
  • Motel 6, Mammoth Lakes CA
  • A very nice price point for staying in Mammoth. Interior is very stylish and well laid out - plenty of electrical outlets in convenient places, nice table and shelves. On the negative side, no refrigerator and microwave, as I have come to expect in my cheap motels.

  • Duke's Slickrock Campground
  • private business Hanksville UT
  • Campground, cabins, and a restaurant in the junction town of Hanksville. The campground is reasonably priced. The restaurant has frustrating service and indifferent food, but it's a short walk.

  • Sierra Hot Springs
  • private business Sierraville CA
  • Camping is just the edge of the forest behind the lodge. Next to a very pretty cow pasture at the edge of the huge Sierra Valley. Nice lodge to hang out in, wifi and kitchen, free to campers. The Hot Springs has also taken over the hotel in town. There is also a breakfast place and aMexican restaurant in town, both pricy but good!

  • TownePlace Suites
  • private business Redding CA
  • Spent two nights here in two rooms with the extended family for a sixth grade basketball tournament. Every room has a kitchenette. Continental breakfast is very well-stocked. Quite nice!

  • Katie's house #2
  • private business Eureka CA
  • On the edge of downtown Eureka. Across the street from the wonderful Humboldt County Library, in sight of the famous Carson Mansion, 200 yards from the Donut Mill (eek!). A rambling, beautiful old house. Wood-paneled dining room, high ceilings, old-school push button light switches. Kinda sketchy neighborhood though. The sidewalks look good in the daytime, but after dark they're owned by Eureka's uniquely aggro and insane-ish street people.

  • Colman City Park Campground
  • Colman Municipal Golf Course, Colman SD
  • What a great place! Walk over to the golf course clubhouse to check in, she gives you the wifi password, then you pretty much park on the grass anywhere you want. The wifi was great, it happened that I parked 30' from the bathrooms What with food at the clubhouse, good wifi, and a short walk to the shower, I literally could live here a while.

  • Givens Hot Springs
  • private business Melba ID
  • Old, charmingly decrepit place on the Snake River south of Boise. The hot springs is basically a spring-fed indoor swimming pool. It's a nice temperature, especially after you find the 3-4 spots where the hot water comes in. There's a basketball hoop and 20-30 little beachballs floating around, so one can pass the time shooting hoops.
