  • Redwood Inn
  • private business Willits CA
  • Shabby but neat little Willits motel on a quiet stretch of old 101 between downtown and the Safeway intersection. Looks nice from the road, looks really shabby around back, but once inside the room is pretty nice. Next door to the Mariposa Market, which is handy on the morning.

  • Lucky 7 Casino
  • private business Crescent City CA
  • This place is super user-friendly. There is an RV parking area at the back of the lot, and another across the road behind the reservation gas station. The second one is more level but seemed a little sketchy. I am going for the first. Glad to be here! Wifi was dead for most of the evening, but when it came back it was pretty good. There are a couple of stations in the casino with free coffee and even a cappuccino machine! You can hear the surf at night when the traffic is gone. The ocean is right across the highway, complete with a bench on the bluffs to watch sunset. Sweet little fountain with colored lights to entertain your inner stoner. Nice, friendly place.

  • Thunderbird Motel
  • private business Bishop CA
  • In the good part of downtown Bishop. The funky little Bishop AAA office is right across the street, restaurants and coffee shops a block away.

  • Aspen Motel
  • private business Oakridge OR
  • Crummy little place, but nice tv and good wifi. Oakridge has a real Appalachian feel to it, not in a good way.

  • Anchor Lodge
  • private business Fort Bragg CA
  • In the harbor area. You can see it far below you from 101 in the east side of the bridge over the Noyes River. The "office" is the cashier on the second floor of Silver's at The Wharf across the parking lot. It's also great place to return to for a sunset beer. Very user-friendly place. Upstairs rooms are $10 cheaper, but they were full.

  • Colusa Casino
  • private business Colusa CA
  • RV parking is way in the back of the parking lot ... That part of the lot is still gravel there and quite muddy in the rain. Casino is cozy and not unpleasant. Restaurant and bar are just fine. Wifi is terrible except close to the coffee shop.

  • Katie's house #2
  • private business Eureka CA
  • On the edge of downtown Eureka. Across the street from the wonderful Humboldt County Library, in sight of the famous Carson Mansion, 200 yards from the Donut Mill (eek!). A rambling, beautiful old house. Wood-paneled dining room, high ceilings, old-school push button light switches. Kinda sketchy neighborhood though. The sidewalks look good in the daytime, but after dark they're owned by Eureka's uniquely aggro and insane-ish street people.

  • Jackson Wellspring
  • private business Ashland OR
  • right outside Ashland, dusty little hippie place near the fancy Lithia Hot Springs Resort. The pools were excellent and clean, as was the pavilion area with wifi and electrical outlets. But the rest of the place was third world and had a weird vibe.

  • Waters Edge Resort
  • private business Garden City UT
  • Was called the Bear Lake Lodge until recently. The old motel seems to be some kind of doomed placeholder for a deluxe extended stay place "coming soon". Great location, the lake directly in back, pizza place to the north and a nice modern place that even serves beer to the south ... which turns out to be the same owners as the motel.

  • Duke's Slickrock Campground
  • private business Hanksville UT
  • Campground, cabins, and a restaurant in the junction town of Hanksville. The campground is reasonably priced. The restaurant has frustrating service and indifferent food, but it's a short walk.

  • Orvis Hot Springs
  • private business Ridgway CO
  • Really nice hot pools in a wide, beautiful valley. Camping area is the parking lot. Paths and pools are full of uneven rocks so it's difficult to walk on the former and you're always banging your shins in the latter, but the water is really nice. Has a smoking pool - a pool where you may smoke ciggies while you soak! Disgusting, but kinda cool!

  • Old Brewery Hostel
  • Mizpah Hotel, Tonopah NV
  • Hostel-style lodging in a cool-looking renovated brewery building behind the actual Mitzpah. Register in the hotel, walk out the back door and across the street and there you are.

  • Martha's house #3
  • private business Petaluma CA
  • Making their way back to the Bay Area. A nice house on a busy street walking distance from user-friendly downtown Petaluma.

  • Titanic Comfort Hotel
  • private business Istanbul Turkey
  • nice place, kinda boring, in an upscale but boring part of town. Breakfast was good. They stuck me in the basement.

  • Eureka Inn
  • private business Eureka CA
  • Historic hotel in the heart of downtown. Cool place with a cool bar with frequent live music. The downstairs areas are large and very grand, and you can feel the history, which would merit my "fancy" designation. The actual rooms however are pretty shabby with not much space and few amenities, hence the "plain" designation.Three blocks away from the heart of Old Town, with all it's eating, drinking, and shopping opportunities.

  • Titanic Hotel at Anadolu Medical Center
  • private business Gebze Turkey
  • quite deluxe and pleasant, no reason to be here except for the hospital, wonderful breakfast included, nice people

  • Martha's house #1
  • private business Eureka CA
  • Where the family now is. A little one bedroom on a corner with a nice bug side yard, perfect for playing ball with Tyler.

  • Albion River Campground
  • private business Albion CA
  • Looked good on the internet, and probably is good if you're a fisherman with a boat and a huge-ass RV as big as a mobile home.

  • Rodeway Inn
  • Rodeway Inn, Cedar City UT
  • Very basic motel on Center St, about five blocks south of Center and Main, the core of any good Mormon town. A lot of semi-permanent residents. Not really sketchy, just poor. Indoor pool and jacuzzi were very nice.

  • South Fork Inn
  • private business Idaho Falls ID
  • Quite nice and deluxe as budget motels go.

  • Shoreline RV Park
  • private business Crescent City
  • Right in downtown Crescent City. The main harbor pier 2 blocks south, lighthouse and beach houses a mile or so north. Park near the wifi tower and you're good!
