The artist &#8230; was impressed by the scene of pomp ceremony. <\/em><br><em>He &#8230; took on the task of painting the scene using models and friends to pose<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Factiods from the internet:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Logsdall was given much assistance by the City of London.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Corporation Mace was made available to him.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The coachman and footmen went <em>in their liveries<\/em> to his studio in Primrose Hill to pose for him.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exhibited in 1890 at the Royal Academy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Logsdall took 2\u00bd years to paint this, at a cost of \u00a3500.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He refused an offer of \u00a3800 for it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exhibited in America where it won a medal!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eventually sold to Sir James Whitehead, who promised to give it to the Guildhall but then decided to keep! \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>His son eventually did give it to them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It now hangs at the Guildhall!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"border-top-width:2px\">First thoughts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>No Pieces Missing!!<\/strong>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sad to say this did not feel like a very high quality puzzle. Unlike a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whufu.com\/wpgreen\/?page_id=1001\">Pomegranate puzzle<\/a> I would not go out of my way to get a Falcon Deluxe puzzle! The colors are muddy and &#8220;need better light&#8221;, even in very good light &#8230; sigh&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That said, the fact that no pieces are missing counts for a lot!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The colors in internet renderings of the painting are MUCH sharper than this puzzle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"border-top-width:2px\">The puzzle review<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My take on the puzzle:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The first thing I&#8217;m drawn to is the colors:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>First the reds jump out at you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The gold also, but at first viewing the areas with gold are too busy to get a handle on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The white breeches, and the different degrees of white.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The horseman&#8217;s breeches are VERY white!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The staff guy&#8217;s pants are more of a cream.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Also the black guy on the edge has a white outfit that has seen a lot of wear.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The first part of the puzzle I actually did was the middle third of the bottom half. \ud83d\ude42\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The big faces, the three guys in front, and the horseman then the carriages.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>That took care of the red except for those two bits in the crowd.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then I worked on the rest of the bottom half\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Picking out puzzle pieces with faces and trying to find that face in the picture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then the funnest part was the layer of black peppered with faces on both sides. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After that it&#8217;s just a matter of putting in the work to do:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> the flagstones on the bottom<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the clouds on the top<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and the gray, shadow-y buildings in the middle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First part:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure coaches and the horses and starting the pavement.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can tell the artist really got into painting this. This is where the puzzle piece similarity problem above was a real issue! If you&#8217;re doing faces or red and gold uniforms, the fact that two pieces are of a similar shape is not a problem because the patterns are so distinct. But now doing the wet pavement (or sky next week), 10-20 pieces look very similar. The two puzzle were similar in that each had a bunch of little faces staring back at you, so you spend chunks of time examining each little face and placing them one by one.
