My early travel sites!
- 2000 Cross Country Road Trip
- Same trip as the posts below, but this is original format from 18 years ago.
- Note that each row of the table is a post in the list below.
- The first: Mill Valley – Indiana
- 2002 Cross Country (links are broken, but here’s the home page)
- What a cool-looking map!
- The eastward route appears to aim straight for Lake Michigan. I wanted to visit an old DC friend who moved to Milwaukee
- I can’t remember why the map wanders the wilds of Louisiana on the way home. Hopefully the trip notes will tell me if I find them. 🙂
Trips requiring a passpost
These trips outside the country happened before I started blogging my road trips in the WHUFU website.
Back when I was married, jaunts to exotic tropical destinations appealed to me and my wife. We had great fun on them.
On my own with the Sprinter van I was happy to just putter about in the contiguous Unided States. All those trips are here: All Stories for All Trips.
1983 – Hawaii, Hong Kong, Japan
Laura filled out a card for one of those 1980s-style store promotionals and actually won!!!
Are you old enough to remember a clothing store called Miller’s Outpost? That store is forever in my heart because it hooked us up for a trip to Hong Kong for a couple of weeks!, … and Hawaii and Japan while we were at it!
2000 Road trip to 30th Harvard Reunion
The first post “Notes on …” was written recently, and is the 2026 story of deciding to massage these old emails enough to re-publish them here.:

Here are other trips I took, for which I have very little documentation. If I find ehough to make a post, I will publish them.
Preview of Coming Attractions:
I also went to all the places below! But I have not yet pulled together the little bits of documentation I still have for them.
1984 – Trip to Cuernevaca with Laura
1985 – Work trip to Australia – just me!
Taught a class on How to Use Mirage (the Zenographics product) in three cities:
- Sydney – big city, where their company was headquartered.
- Brisbane – in the north (which means hotter south of the equator!). Very tropical, felt like New Orleans!
- The Brisbane rep showed me a great time!
- Melbourne – in the south. Felt very business-like to me.
- Just taught the course then flew to New Zealand!
Three very interesting cities quite different from each other!
Then a few days in New Zealand on the way home, also amazing!
1997 – France with Laureen
Almost 50 years old and my first time in France!
We got to stay at her mom’s flat in Paris. Took the train to Mont St Michel. So cool!
1999 – Portugal with Laureen
Lisbon and Sintra, then points south and a train trip through the interior to Evora, then the Algarve.
I really liked Portugal!
Beaches of Belize and Jungle of Tikal
- Ambergris Cay is awesome.
- Then a bus trip Tikal in Guatamala.
- Then an interior resort in Belize with the miracle of in the middle of the jungle with no mosquitoes!
All those places were great. Everyone said stay out of Belize City!!
15 years of criss-crossing these great United States
