Movies

It’s been years since I’ve actually watched a movie in a theater.
Everything listed here I saw on my TV.

I mostly watch “whodunits”.
Although I find myself watching a lot more Westerns in my old age than I used to!

The whodunits, I mark with a tag of noir.

The whodunits, I mark with a tag of noir. Here is a list of them:
  • The Big Heat (1953)

  • The Drowning Pool (1975)

  • Harper (1966)

  • Marlowe (1969)

  • The Blue Dahlia (1946)

  • The Big Combo (1955)

  • The Unsuspected (1947)

Here are the rest: Jane Austen, crime dramas, and a lone sci-fi: 🙂
  • The Accountant (2016)

  • Bullitt (1968)

  • Mansfield Park (1999)

  • No Name on the Bullet (1959)

  • Pride and Prejudice (2005)

  • Reacher (2012)

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Woman

addendum

When I started this project, I gave each movie a short review here.
Because I hate to throw anything away, here are the first five 🙂

No Name on the Bullet (1959)
  • You had me at Audie Murphy.
  • Perfect hero for a 1950s movie:
    • everyone is darkly suspicious of everyone else
    • smoldering unacknowledged sex
The Unsuspected (1947)
  • I’m also a sucker for Audrey Totter.
    • She was Adrienne Fromsett in Lady in the Lake.
    • I’ve had a crush on her for years 🙂
Attack of the 50-Foot Woman (1958)
  • I am also a bit of a sucker for that1950’s style.
    • The huge cars with giant fins.
    • Extravagant floozies.
  • It’s a short movie, in the Nevada desert!
Reacher (2012)
  • I had finished reading a Reacher book and this movie was right there on the TV, so I watched it again. It’s kinda meh.
    • I think the Reacher character is more appealing to me on the printed page than on the screen.
Pride and Prejudice (2005)
  • I’m a sucker for Jane Austen … and Kiera Knightly 🙂

Where I get my movies

I subscribe to Youtube TV so there’s no penalty to record everything that strikes my fancy.

Every now few days I crank up the TCM ‘channel preview’ feature to see what’s in store, and again press the “record button” as needed!
