On Lake Mendocino, off SR 20 a few miles east of 101. Annoying access road with 6 or ten speed bumps, but a very pleasant place once you've been assigned your spot by the check-in. Nice, free showers! The bathroom lights are quite bright, so a spot that looks nice in the afternoon might be kind of annoying at night.
I wish I new how to pay at this place. Not a lot of sites are occupied, but those that are are mostly large, noisy groups. I'm down on the flats this time, a nice big, level space in the live oaks ... with a yappy dow 50 yards away.
They've gotten smarter and closed off all of the huge campground except a small loop at the top of the hill. I am greateful that they kept it open.
It's really nice up here except that busy route 20 is directly across the valley and even though it's maybe a mile away, there is nothing between you and it to stop the noise.
the place is deserted this time, no one at the gate, and the ACE instructions for self check-in are so bizarre I'm not even going to try - "pick a site, call the reservation 800 number and pay with your credit card" - oh please ...
Facebook tells me there's a mysterious fish kill here. Maybe that's why there NOBODY here. It's super pleasant for just little ole me though.
